NoNetChat terms of use

Version dated 14 October 2026. These terms describe the NoNetChat application and its official websites. The welcome summary highlights the essentials; these terms provide the details.

1. The service and its publisher

NoNetChat is a free proximity messenger operated by COVOIT.NC, an association established in New Caledonia. The legal notice provides the publisher’s contact details. Using NoNetChat does not make you a member of the association and creates no membership fee obligation.

Devices communicate through Bluetooth and, when available, a local network or Nearby on Android. Local conversations require no central account or Internet connection. A browser must first load the client from the Internet or a device on the local network. Capabilities depend on the system, browser and hardware. Features described as planned are not available features.

2. Access and acceptance

The current version is intended for people aged 16 or older. The age check uses a declared date of birth processed locally; it does not verify identity documents. Minors must follow the rules on legal capacity and obtain permission from their legal representative where required. Protected mode for younger users is not available in this version.

The application asks you to accept the terms before enabling communication. Essential rules remain available without Internet. You can stop using the application at any time. You are responsible for a compatible device, its power supply and any download or Internet access costs.

3. Private conversations, groups and verification

A private conversation requires both people’s agreement. Private conversations and groups are end-to-end encrypted: devices carrying these messages cannot read their contents. Encryption does not protect against access to an unlocked device or a recipient copying or sharing a message.

Agreeing to chat does not verify the other person’s identity. Comparing the code through an independent channel verifies the device; it does not certify the contact’s civil identity, age or personal trustworthiness. Do not confirm verification if the codes differ.

Joining a group reveals your nickname and stable public keys to members who have joined. The invitation shows the planned participants. Group consent does not authorize individual private conversations or permanent recognition. Members may keep messages they have received.

4. Public posts and relaying

“Around me” is public. Posts are signed but are not end-to-end encrypted. Anyone receiving them can read, keep or share them. The displayed reach and audience are estimates, not confidentiality boundaries. Keep personal information in private conversations.

Participating devices can carry messages for other devices. Technical copies have limited lifetimes: up to 24 hours for pending private packets, 3 hours for public posts and 6 hours for public alerts. These limits do not delete copies already saved or made by recipients. Operation can consume battery power and storage.

5. Respect for people and rights

Treat others with respect. Harassment, threats, unlawful discrimination, incitement to violence, fraud, impersonation, spam, malware and illegal content are prohibited. Do not deliberately disrupt devices, the network or security mechanisms.

Do not publish other people’s private information without a lawful basis or distribute images, text or files without permission. Respect privacy, image rights and intellectual property. You remain responsible for your content and your choice of recipients.

6. Child safety

All forms of child sexual exploitation or abuse are strictly prohibited on NoNetChat. This prohibition covers related content, its solicitation or distribution, grooming, sexual extortion and any facilitation of these acts.

Contact the competent authorities in the event of danger or an offence. Do not send us illegal content or copies of private conversations. You can ask product safety questions at [email protected]; this is neither an emergency service nor a way to remove messages remotely.

7. Your choices and the limits of reporting

You can ignore a chat request, block a contact and use hiding and reporting controls where available. In-app reporting hides content only on your device. It is not sent to the association, a server or the authorities. You can undo hiding in the application.

NoNetChat operates no moderation server and performs no centralized monitoring of conversations. The association cannot remove a post from every device or suspend a central account that does not exist. Blocking an unknown identifier does not guarantee that a new identity will not reappear. You can stop communication and disable radio permissions in your system settings.

Only in the public area, confirming a report also shares anonymous feedback: the public post identifier and a signature by the rotating identifier, without a reason, nickname or permanent identity. This feedback expires with the post. Each device decides locally whether to collapse the content based on received feedback; anyone can reveal it. Alerts are never collapsed automatically. Private-chat, group and profile reports are never broadcast.

8. Availability, security and emergencies

Delivery depends on radio range, nearby devices, their batteries, permissions, operating systems and availability. A pending message is not proof of receipt. A delivery confirmation does not guarantee that someone has read or will act on the message. Delays, interruptions and losses remain possible.

NoNetChat does not replace emergency services, certified communication equipment or an avalanche transceiver. Do not rely solely on the application when someone’s safety is at stake.

The association maintains the service within its available resources. It may correct or withdraw a vulnerable version. Continuous operation, compatibility with all hardware and absolute security are not guaranteed. These statements do not remove applicable statutory warranties or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Software, content and third-party services

You keep the rights to your messages and files. Sending them authorizes the technical operations needed for transmission, reception and storage according to your choices and the functions used; it does not transfer ownership to the association or grant advertising reuse rights.

Rights in the software, name, artwork and third-party components belong to their respective holders. Licences provided with components or published with the software determine reuse rights. These terms do not replace those licences. Links to stores, source code or other websites are subject to those services’ terms.

10. Personal data

The privacy policy describes local data, recipients, retention, websites and support. Accepting these terms is not blanket consent to every form of sharing: optional choices and permissions remain separate.

11. Stopping use and changes

You can stop using NoNetChat, clear your history and uninstall the application. These actions do not withdraw copies received by other people. Without a compatible backup or export, some local data cannot be recovered.

Documents carry a version date. Material changes to commitments will be brought to your attention and, where necessary, require renewed acceptance. An update may require your contacts to update too. Version 0.1.0 introduces a new protocol and cannot communicate with versions 0.0.6 or earlier.

12. Contact and applicable law

For questions or difficulties: [email protected], +687 84 48 13, or COVOIT.NC, 5 rue Charles Frogier, 98800 Nouméa, New Caledonia. An amicable resolution remains possible without limiting your right to seek a remedy.

The service operates from New Caledonia. French law as applicable in New Caledonia applies without depriving you of mandatory protections in your country of residence. Jurisdiction follows applicable rules; these terms do not impose exclusive jurisdiction in Nouméa. If a provision cannot apply, the others remain applicable to the extent permitted by law.
